This year
Bayer CropScience
is exhibiting at Fruit Logistica in Berlin, the world’s biggest
fruit and vegetable trade fair. The company will be presenting
its many and varied activities connected with the production of
high-quality food to an international trade audience at stand
B-09 in Hall 20 from February 7 - 9, 2008. This year’s fair will
also feature "Flavour Guarantee," the latest project launched by
Bayer CropScience in Brazil, which will be presented to a wider
audience at Fruit Logistica.
A number of projects were implemented successfully in 2007 in
collaboration with partners from the fruit and vegetable trade
as part of the "food chain partnership." Food chain partnership
entails a whole business philosophy:
Together with its partners in the food value chain Bayer
CropScience strives to build mutually beneficial relationships.
One of the main focuses of this work was international
cooperation in the cultivation of table grapes. "Bayer
CropScience is making available its wide-ranging expertise in
plant health and harvest quality and quantity to enable growers
to produce high-quality fruit and vegetables as a basis for a
healthy nutrition," explained Dr. Birgitt Walz-Tylla, Head of
Food Chain Management at Bayer CropScience.
Melons, grapes and pineapples with more flavor
Brazil is registering growing demand for fruit and vegetable
products with a sweeter and more intensive flavor. However, many
small farmers have neither the expertise nor the financial
resources to invest in new varieties and cultivation techniques.
Bayer CropScience started the Flavour Guarantee project in 2007
in collaboration with the Non-Governmental Organization
HortiBrasil. This organization is concerned with the
modernization of fruit and vegetable production in Brazil. Some
500 small farmers in Brazil’s major growing regions are now
producing certified melons, grapes and pineapples with the
desired flavor characteristics for the local market.
Bayer CropScience presents international grape projects
Grapes are also the focus of a forum event to which Bayer
CropScience is inviting interested trade visitors. At 2.00 p.m.
on Thursday, February 7, 2008, the company will be presenting
international projects from Spain, Morocco, Greece and Turkey in
Hall 11.2. Active partnership with all the players in the food
chain, from growers and processors to exporters and retailers,
has enabled the high European standards to be optimized with
respect to quality and food safety.
Intense™ tomato nominated for Innovation Award 2008
Nunhems,
a seed company and subsidiary of Bayer CropScience, will also be
at Fruit Logistica. The Nunhems stand is in Hall 8.2 (A-08).
Nunhems is a global specialist in vegetable seeds and sharing
products, concepts and expertise with the professional
horticultural production industry and supply chain. Its
portfolio includes varieties and brands in crops such as leek,
onion, carrot, melon, cucumber, tomato, watermelon, lettuce,
pepper and chicory witlof.
Nunhems’ Intense™ tomato has been nominated for the Fruit
Logistica Innovation Award 2008. Intense™ is a full-flesh tomato
with a higher density, which does not lose its juice. The high
density of Intense™ makes it a convenient tomato for slicing,
dicing and cutting in any other form without losing its shape.
The ability to retain the juice results in a lasting fresh
appearance after cutting. These characteristics, together with
the deep red color make Intense™ a very convenient tomato for
fresh salads, pizza toppings, wraps, sandwiches or as a cooking
tomato. Messe Berlin and Fruchthandel Magazine grant the
Innovation Award for outstanding innovation in the fresh produce
sector and its service industries. As nominated for the award,
Intense™ will be presented to the visitors of Fruit Logistica in
a special exhibition area in the entrance foyer.
Bayer is a global enterprise with core competencies in the
fields of health care, nutrition and high-tech materials. Bayer
CropScience AG, a subsidiary of Bayer AG with annual sales of

Bayer
In Halle 20,
Food chain
partnership (Partnerschaft in der
Lebensmittelkette) steht für eine ganze Unternehmensphilosophie:
Gemeinsam mit seinen Partnern entlang der Lebensmittelkette will
Bayer CropScience für alle Seiten vorteilhafte Beziehungen
aufbauen.
Porree, Zwiebel, Möhre, Melone, Gurke, Tomate, Wassermelone,
