BASF Canada recently
announced that EQUINOX™ herbicide will be broadly available
across western Canada for the 2008 growing season. The
herbicide, which was available only in limited quantities in
2007, is a new Group 1 post-emergent dicot graminicide.
"We’re very pleased that EQUINOX will be broadly available for
2008," says Chris Vander Kant, BASF western herbicides brand
manager. "This will allow growers across western Canada to see
first-hand what a limited number of growers had the opportunity
to experience in 2007 — superior grassy weed and volunteer
cereal control. Growers will also find that because of its rate
flexibility, EQUINOX is not only an effective grassy weed
control tool but also an economical one as well."
EQUINOX offers superior control of key grassy weeds, including
green foxtail, wild oats and volunteer barley, as well as
application rate flexibility. It controls wild oats, green
foxtail, volunteer barley and volunteer wheat at the 40 or 60
acre per case rate when applied at the 1- to 6-true-leaf stage
of grassy weeds, up to two tillers. EQUINOX controls quackgrass
at the 32 acre per case rate when applied at the 3- to
6-true-leaf stage.
The Group 1 active ingredient in EQUINOX, Tepraloxydim, is
absorbed through the leaves and rapidly translocated to the
rhizomes. This mode of action kills actively growing rhizome
buds as well as above-ground vegetation.
EQUINOX also offers growers convenience. It is rainfast in just
one hour and is conveniently packaged with enough MERGE®
adjuvant in one case to treat 40 or 60 acres, depending on the
application rate. Each 3.24 L jug of EQUINOX is packaged with
one 8.1 L jug of MERGE, meaning there will be no excess
surfactant to store or dispose.
EQUINOX is also a qualifying product for the 2008 GrowForward™
Rewards Program, allowing growers to save up to 14 per cent on
leading BASF herbicides and up to 22 per cent on BASF
fungicides.
Currently registered for use on peas, flax and lentils, an
application for the use of EQUINOX on canola has also been made.
