Lanworth, Inc. expands crop analysis into South America - Satellite imaging analysis firm to increases scope of corn, soy, and wheat production

Chicago, Illinois
March 7, 2008

Lanworth, Inc., a geospatial imaging analysis firm based in Illinois, announced its introduction of corn, soy and wheat crop coverage for the commodities’ entire growing regions.

The company’s Real-Time Acres and Yield (RAY) portal will feature North American data analysis to clients, as well as an optional program for reports on Brazil and Argentina, the primary corn, soy and wheat growing countries in South America.

“Setting our sights on South America rounds out the picture for these major commodities,” said Dr. Nick Kouchoukos, Agricultural Analyst for Lanworth. “It gives us the ability to look internationally and see, with great accuracy, where the production has been and where it is going.”

Lanworth made headlines in October when, five days prior to the USDA, the firm reported a radical drop in US corn production according to their imaging analysis. Sure enough, the USDA presented numbers much lower than the market expected, which continued to drop until the final report in January. With each passing month, the USDA crop production reports moved closer to Lanworth’s early prediction.

“The US numbers substantiated our value to the North American agriculture industry,” said Dr. Kouchoukos. “We aim to extend that value to commodities traders and producers in the South American market.”

Lanworth is an information technology company specializing in the application of aerial and satellite remote sensing to natural resource management. Lanworth assists clients in making informed decisions in the forestry, government, agriculture, real estate, electricity, gas, and transportation industries. Lanworth supplies its clients with detailed geographic and resource information on a global scale.
