Monheim, Germany

The
United Fresh 2008
exhibition will bring together representatives of the entire
food supply chain May 5-7 in Las Vegas, Nevada to exchange
experience, establish contacts and learn about new trends, tools
and technologies in the fresh fruit and vegetable industry.
Nunhems, the vegetable
seed business of Bayer CropScience, will be at Booth Number 5301
highlighting its expert services and major new vegetable seed
varieties for the US market, including colored carrots, Magenta™
melons, and Intense™ tomato, a new tomato developed for food
service and fresh-cut applications.
“Our goal has always been to lead the industry by creating
innovative, high quality seed with traits that meet and exceed
the needs of the marketplace,“ said Clark Huffman, Nunhems’
Director of Sales & Marketing. “This begins with our unique
understanding of the entire vegetable supply chain through the
work of our Crop Teams, including learning what attributes
consumers want and what growers, distributors, processors, and
retailers need.“
In addition to creating quality, market-oriented seed products
from its value-added genetics, Nunhems offers its customers
valuable insights through growing concepts and supply chain
knowledge gained from its close relationships to those in the
produce industry. The strength of these relationships often
leads to profitable, long-term partnerships that result in
innovative new products and new market opportunities.
One
of the most innovative products in Nunhems’ vegetable seed
portfolio is Intense™ tomato. With less gel, it is ideally
suited for efficient slicing, dicing and cutting while still
retaining its texture and fresh appearance. After the successful
introduction of Intense™ on the European market in 2007, it will
now be launched in the Americas. Its unique characteristics and
its versatility of use in fresh salads, pizza toppings,
sandwiches, wraps or as a cooking tomato, earned Intense™ the
2008 Fruit Logistica Innovation Award.
In the melons segment, Nunhems’ Magenta™ line, with its
consistent round shape, distinctive internal color and small
seed cavity, is ideal for both whole and fresh-sliced
applications. Magenta™ melons are also very adaptable to a
variety of growing regions.
When it comes to consumer preference, flavor and variety of
color rank high in the list of desired characteristics. Intended
to give consumers just that, are Nunhems’ hybrid colored carrot
varieties. These colorful carrots (available in red, yellow,
purple, cream and light orange colors) are creating new market
opportunities through improved retail appeal and enhanced
processing characteristics. Just as important, these varieties
are exceedingly grower-friendly, offering superb quality, high
yields and strong disease resistance across many different
environments.
In addition to the presence of Nunhems at United Fresh 2008,
Bayer CropScience will be showcasing its Food Chain Partnership
concept at Booth Number 4859.
