To provide the highest level of
seed testing, research, and disease tolerance possible,
Worldwide SoyTechnologies, LLC
announces the addition of an onsite nematology specialist to its
growing research program.
Amy I. Carr, who joined Worldwide SoyTechnologies recently, is
focusing on Soybean Cyst Nematode (SCN) as well as disease
screening on all seed varieties licensed for Worldwide
SoyTechnologies as well as soybean lines produced for HBK Seed.
Carr is implementing a molecular marker approach to test new
plant varieties for resistance to SCN, which will further speed
those varieties to market.
Worldwide SoyTechnologies is a research and development division
of Hornbeck Agricultural Group. In addition to the new staff
position the company is enhancing its laboratory and greenhouse
facilities.
"Seeds without excellent disease tolerance are of little use to
our customers, so our seed varieties undergo a rigorous testing
process," said Jon Hornbeck, a principal in Worldwide
SoyTechnologies. "Having a specialist here focusing all her
efforts in this area will bolster that process from start to
finish."
Carr has more than a decade of experience in nematology and
agronomic traits. As a senior research associate at Monsanto Ag,
Carr was responsible for SCN and Root Knot Nematode phenotypic
greenhouse soybean testing. While at Monsanto, she was also a
member of the SCN Agronomic Traits and Biotechnology team that
supported biotech discovery efforts. Carr was responsible for
all SCN Breeding discovery projects including interaction of
fungal pathogens and SCN as well as finding and evaluating
genetically new sources of SCN resistance.
In addition to earning an associate’s degree in business, Carr
completed two specialized Nematode Identification courses at
Clemson University in Clemson, S.C.
Worldwide SoyTechnologies a part of Hornbeck Agricultural Group,
which includes Hornbeck Seed Company and Arkansas SoyEnergy
Group, LLC. Starting in 1981, Hornbeck Seed has grown into one
of the Mid-South's premier dealers of proprietary soybean
products. Arkansas SoyEnergy Group is the first and only
biodiesel production facility in Arkansas that has an on-site
crusher capable of taking locally-grown soybeans “from the field
to the fuel tank” at one location. The principals of Hornbeck
Agricultural Group are brothers Jon, Troy, and Jeff Hornbeck,
all of DeWitt. More information is available online at
