First meeting of the Afghanistan National Seed Association (ANSA)

The first meeting of the Afghanistan National Seed Association (ANSA) was organized under the aegis of the Variety and Seed Industry Development project, which is implemented by FAO and MAIL, with founding from European Union, with the chairs and participations of :

H.E. Ghulam Mustapha Jawad, Technical deputy Minister – MAIL
Mr. Abdul Ghafar Ahmadi – Head of PPQD – MAIL
H.E. Pir Mohammad Azizi, Deputy Minister – MAIL
Dr. Zewdie Bishaw, ICARDA
Eng. Mirdad Panjsheri, Chief Advisor & National Seed Council Chairman
Dr. Samuel Kugbei – FAO Seed Project Coordinator
Mr. Jean-Louis Duval – FAO Association Seed Expert
Prof. Musa Fariwar – FAO Legal expert.

The General Assembly has reviewed and approved the Articles of Association.

Thirty two (32) companies or organisations have applied for membership including thirty ordinary members and two associate members.

Nine members of the board were elected representing the different regions of the country:

- Afghan Seed Project - Mohammad Qaseem
- Baba-e-Dehqan - Abdul Ghani Sharaf
- ISE – Kabul - Mohammad Shafi
- ISRA - Abdul Mutalib
- Khwaja Mohammad Musafer - Ahmad Farid
- Noor Brothers - Abdul Haleem
- Nahr-e-Sayed - M. Akram Kargar
- Sharq Seed Enterprise - Saida Jan Abdiani
- Sultan Daud Seed. Ent - Sultan Daud

The new board of directors had its first meeting on 20 October 2008 the the association's new office in the National Seed Secretrariat, Badam Bagh, Kabul.

The board members made a number of decisions.

Saida Jan Abdiani has been elected President

Abdul Haleem Noor, Vice President
 
Mohammed Qaseem Dehquanpoor, Treasurer

Mohammad Shafi, Secretary of the Board
