BASF Plant Science has licensed Genedata Expressionist® across all of their research centers in Europe and North America.

Genedata, the leading provider of in-silico solutions for pharmaceutical R&D and related life sciences, today announced a new license agreement with BASF Plant Science in the plant biotechnology industry. BASF Plant Science has licensed Genedata Expressionist® across all of their research centers in Europe and North America.

BASF Plant Science is focused on developing plants for increased agricultural efficiency, healthier nutrition and as renewable raw materials. Projects include plants with higher yield, plants with a higher content of healthy Omega-3 fatty acids for improved cardiovascular health and potatoes with an optimized starch composition for use in the paper, textile and construction industries.

Since researchers from BASF Plant Science analyze thousands of genes every year, a scalable platform like Genedata Expressionist for the analysis of large volumes of molecular profiling data is important to support the identification and characterization of the most suitable genes.

Genedata Expressionist streamlines workflow-based data processing and integrated analysis of large experimental datasets for biomarker identification. Expressionist is used for automated quality assessment and pre-processing of omics data, including microarray and PCR data, and allows researchers to integrate laboratory data with molecular profiling data obtained by transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics applications.

"BASF Plant Science has created one of the world’s most efficient gene screening programs for plant biotechnology,” explained Juergen Logemann, Vice President Technology Management at BASF Plant Science. "After a thorough market evaluation, the Expressionist system from Genedata was chosen for its ability to accurately process and analyze large amounts of expression profiling data in a high-throughput manner and to efficiently integrate these complex datasets into our R&D environment."

“We are proud to contribute to the success of research at BASF Plant Science,” said Dr. Othmar Pfannes, CEO of Genedata. “Today 4 out of the top 6 leading agricultural companies have licensed Genedata Expressionist for a wide range of R&D applications. The agricultural sector has become a very exciting growth area for Genedata.”

Genedata develops and globally markets sophisticated computational solutions for drug discovery and related research processes in the life sciences. Genedata’s solutions enable scientists to process, integrate, analyze, and manage large and complex experimental data sets generated by high-throughput technologies. Our solutions include Genedata Phylosopher® for target discovery and integrative biological data management, Genedata Screener® for automated high throughput screening and high content screening, and Genedata Expressionist® for biomarker discovery and personalized medicine. Founded in 1997, Genedata is privately held, with headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, and offices in Boston & San Francisco, USA, Konstanz & Munich, Germany and Tokyo, Japan.
