USDA/FAS GAIN report number: UP 8020

Report highlights

The import of various planting seeds into Ukraine is growing every year. This year it almost doubled compared to last year. The United States has a leading place as a supplier of the main field crop seeds entering Ukraine.

Executive Summary

Ukraine’s market for imported planting seeds was estimated at $235 million in marketing year 2007-2008 with U.S. origin seeds capturing a 30% market share. Ukraine’s planting seeds market is growing very fast, for example Ukraine’s market for imported planting seeds was estimated at $55 million in marketing year 2003-2004 with U.S. origin seeds capturing only 9% market share. Most likely, imports will continue to increase in MY 2008/2009 because of the increasing demand for quality seeds by Ukrainian farmers.
