Introduction
In 2006, organic fruit
and
vegetable sales were almost
$6.7 billion or over 1% of total
food retail sales so this is an important food category. It
also represents a significant opportunity for the specialty
seed industry.
Organic food sales are
the fastest growing category of food retail sales in the U.S.
The largest segment of organic food sales is fruits and
vegetables (40%).
