Mycogen Seeds introduces nine new silage hybrids for 2009

.

Indianapolis, Indiana
August 21, 2008

Mycogen Seeds announces its 2009 silage product lineup with nine new, high-performing SILAGE-SPECIFIC™ BMR and TMF silage hybrids. The new MYCOGEN® brand hybrids give forage producers more options for increased milk production and greater digestibility — always important, especially during these times of high grain prices.

“Research proves that cows fed SILAGE-SPECIFIC BMR hybrids produce 4.8 pounds more milk per day. And since BMR hybrids are highly digestible, they increase dry matter intake, so you can feed more corn silage and less grain without sacrificing milk production,” says Greg Cannon, forage products marketing specialist, Mycogen Seeds. “In addition, SILAGE-SPECIFIC TMF hybrids deliver higher tonnage along with increased digestibility for greater milk production.”

Several of the new hybrids offer stacked traits, including HERCULEX® XTRA Insect Protection, LibertyLink® and Roundup Ready® technology.

New hybrids

  • The earliest-maturing BMR hybrid at 90 days, F2F297 offers excellent standability and good stress tolerance.
  • F2F569 is an early BMR corn hybrid with good ear flex and improved gray leaf spot tolerance. This hybrid offers excellent NDF digestibility for dairy rations. It provides the powerful above- and below-ground protection of HERCULEX XTRA and the Roundup Ready technology.
  • Delivering very good tonnage for its height, F2F635 is a 110-day hybrid that contains HERCULEX I Insect Protection and Roundup Ready technologies. It is a hybrid with ears that flex for length.
  • A showy, 94-day hybrid that combines excellent plant agronomics and plant health with forage yield, TMF2L418 offers excellent forage quality that is consistent with other TMF hybrids. It offers the stacked trait protection of Roundup Ready and HERCULEX XTRA.
  • A medium to medium-tall, 104-day hybrid with a very full upper canopy, 2W587 offers excellent standability and a good agronomic package. It tends to lengthen ears and add significant tonnage in favorable, high-yielding environments. 2W587 is a Quad-Stack™ silage hybrid, which includes the powerful in-plant insect protection of HERCULEX® XTRA - combining the protection of HERCULEX RW Rootworm Protection and HERCULEX I Insect Protection - along with the herbicide resistance of Roundup Ready® and LibertyLink® technology.
  • A tall, full-season, 123-day hybrid, TMF2H918 is especially well-adapted to the California and Southwest silage markets. It offers high tonnage, excellent staygreen, drought tolerance and standability, with good spider mite tolerance.

Mycogen Seeds, the market leader in SILAGE-SPECIFIC™ hybrids, offers 17 SILAGE-SPECIFIC BMR corn hybrids with the latest advancements in agronomics and nutritional value. Mycogen Seeds also offers 21 SILAGE-SPECIFIC TMF corn hybrids that provide more tonnage and digestibility than competitors’ grain and dual-purpose corn. Personalized management advice and industry-leading support from expert nutritionists and knowledgeable people also are available.

“At Mycogen Seeds, we are committed to helping producers achieve increased milk production through improved silage hybrids,” Cannon concludes. “Maximum digestibility and more tonnage results in a higher return on investment for the dairy producer.”
