Enkhuizen, the Netherlands
April 7, 2009

Monday April 6, Jacob Mazereeuw, founder and former managing director of Enza Zaden, passed away in the city of Enkhuizen, the Netherlands, at the age of 94 years.

Jacob Mazereeuw was known for his entrepreneurship. In 1938, he laid the foundation of Enza Zaden, at that time called ‘De Enkhuizer Zaadhandel’. During almost 50 years, he worked with all his heart for his company, and also after his retirement, he was closely associated with Enza Zaden and its employees.

Mister Mazereeuw’s inspiration lives on in the current Enza Zaden and it is among one of the most important factors that has brought the company its prominent position on today’s worldwide market of vegetable seeds. Enza Zaden is still an independent company that, by now, has grown into a healthy, international enterprise with over a thousand employees.
