Bayer CropScience
will be presenting the biological and chemical properties of its
new herbicidal active ingredient indaziflam for the first time
at the 49th Annual Meeting of the Weed Science Society of
America. Indaziflam is a promising substance that can be used on
a large number of non-agricultural plants to control weeds. With
Indaziflam, Bayer CropScience is also strengthening its
portfolio of agricultural crop protection products. The Annual
Meeting, which will be attended by academic and industrial
scientists, will be held from February
9 -13 in Orlando, Florida (USA).
Indaziflam is one of ten new active ingredients that Bayer
CropScience is planning to launch between 2008 and 2012, which
together have a peak sales potential in excess of EUR 1 billion.
Indaziflam is currently at an advanced stage of development. The
company anticipates marketing the first products based on this
active ingredient in 2011, assuming that regulatory approval is
granted.
Indaziflam belongs to the chemical class of alkylazines and
provides an excellent long-lasting action. The new compound
controls a broad spectrum of weeds, including species which are
difficult to eliminate such as annual bluegrass, goosegrass,
ryegrass and goosefoot. Indaziflam is an excellent mixing
partner and can be used either pre- or post-emergent in
conjunction with post-emergent herbicides. Another advantage for
the operator is the low application rate. Because of the
long-lasting action and the broad spectrum of activity, the
number of applications can be reduced. This makes indaziflam an
environmentally compatible and pioneering active ingredient in
the global non-selective herbicides market.
Bayer CropScience believes that there are applications for the
professional user in the commercially attractive green industry
segment, for example in the care of turf on golf courses and
sports fields, public lawns and gardens, and for ornamental
plants. In these markets, its business operations unit
Environmental Science offers a comprehensive range of products.
Demand for branded products for effective and environmentally
compatible weed control has also expanded among do-it-yourself
gardeners and home and garden owners.
The company also sees additional growth potential in its Crop
Protection business: Indaziflam can be used in agricultural
crops such as fruit and vines, nuts, citrus fruit, olives and
sugar cane as a new basic herbicide.

- Markteinführung für innovatives Produkt zur Unkrautbekämpfung

Monheim, 9. Februar 2009 - Bayer CropScience stellt die
biologischen und chemischen Eigenschaften seines neuen
Herbizid-Wirkstoffs Indaziflam weltweit erstmals auf der 49.
Jahrestagung der Weed Science Society of America vor. Der viel
versprechende Wirkstoff kann in einer großen Anzahl
nicht-landwirtschaftlicher Kulturen zur Bekämpfung von Ungräsern
und Unkräutern eingesetzt werden. Darüber hinaus verstärkt Bayer
CropScience mit Indaziflam auch sein Produktportfolio im
landwirtschaftlichen Pflanzenschutz. Die Jahrestagung, an der
Wissenschaftler von Universitäten und aus der Industrie
teilnehmen, findet vom 9. bis 13. Februar in Orlando
(Florida/USA) statt.
Indaziflam gehört zu den zehn neuen Wirkstoffen, die Bayer
CropScience in den Jahren 2008 bis 2012 in den Markt einführen
will und die ein Spitzenumsatzpotenzial von insgesamt mehr als
einer Milliarde Euro haben.
Indaziflam befindet sich im fortgeschrittenen
Entwicklungsstadium. Das Unternehmen geht davon aus, erste
Produkte auf Basis dieses neuen Wirkstoffs voraussichtlich im
Jahr 2011 - vorbehaltlich der behördlichen Zulassung - anbieten
zu können.
Indaziflam stammt aus der chemischen Klasse der Alkylazine und
zeichnet sich durch seine lang anhaltende Wirkungsdauer aus. Das
neue Mittel umfasst ein breites Spektrum an Ungräsern und
Unkäutern einschließlich schwer bekämpfbarer Arten wie
Einjährige Rispe, Klettenlabkraut, Weidelgras oder Gänsefuß. Der
Wirkstoff eignet sich hervorragend als Mischpartner und kann
zusammen mit Nachauflaufherbiziden im Vor- und Nachauflauf
eingesetzt werden. Ein weiterer Vorteil für den Anwender ist die
geringe Aufwandmenge.
Aufgrund der lang anhaltenden Wirkung und dem breiten
Wirkungspektrum kann zudem die Anzahl der Anwendungen reduziert
werden. Das macht Indaziflam zu einem umweltfreundlichen und
zukunftsweisenden Wirkstoff im weltweiten Markt für
nicht-selektive Herbizide.
Einsatzgebiete des neuen Wirkstoffs sieht Bayer CropScience für
professionelle Anwender im wirtschaftlich attraktiven
Marktsegement Landschaftspflege - etwa auf Golf- und
Sportplätzen sowie in öffentlichen Grünanlagen oder bei
Zierpflanzen. Hier bietet das Unternehmen über seinen
Geschäftsbereich Environmental Science ein umfassendes
Produktangebot. Aber auch bei Hobbygärtnern, Haus- und
Gartenbesitzern ist die Nachfrage nach Markenprodukten für eine
effektive und umweltfreundliche Unkrautbekämpfung gestiegen.
Weiteres Wachstumspotenzial sieht das Unternehmen im Crop
Protection-Geschäft: Indaziflam kann als ein neues Basisherbizid
auch in landwirtschaftlichen Kulturen wie beispielsweise Obst-
und Weinbau, Nüssen, Zitrusfrüchten, Oliven oder auch Zuckerrohr
