Tomato production has
remained relatively stable over the last few years. However,
it is reasonable to expect that Italy may experience a dip
in production when the full impact of the CAP reform is
felt, likely to be in 2012. This potential dip in production
may increase opportunities for U.S. exports of fresh
tomatoes. The bulk of production is used for processing, as
are the majority of its imports.
