BASF Canada receivesn amended registration for the use of Headline fungicide on flax - Market-leading fungicide protects flax crop against Pasmo (Septoria linicola)

BASF Canada has received an amended registration for the use of HEADLINE fungicide on flax. With this registration, growers can now apply HEADLINE to protect their flax crop against Pasmo (Septoria linicola), a serious, yield-robbing disease that can also negatively impact the plant’s health.

“Over the past few years, the incidence of Pasmo in flax has become widespread, particularly in Manitoba,” stated Garvin Kabernick with the Manitoba Flax Growers Association. “With HEADLINE registered for use in this crop, flax growers now have access to leading technology for effective control of Pasmo and can look forward to improved yield and returns.”

BASF recommends that for optimal disease control, HEADLINE should be applied preventatively to flax at 0.3 L/ha (120 ml/ac) at 8-10 days after first flower, with a minimum of 100 L/ha water for ground application or 50L/ha water for aerial application.

Early infection of Pasmo can reduce the yield and quality of flax substantially. Most of the yield loss occurs because infected plants ripen too quickly, seeds do not fill normally, or heavy boll-drop by wind and rain occurs.
This registration was achieved due to a cooperative effort between the Manitoba Minor Use Coordinators, the Manitoba Flax Growers Association, the Flax Council of Canada and BASF Canada. “This is a great example of cooperation between these groups resulting in a superior disease management tool for Canadian flax growers,” says Wayne Barton, Brand Manager, Fungicides for BASF Canada.

With the addition of flax to the HEADLINE label, HEADLINE now provides the best control of most major diseases in the widest range of crops, including cereals, pulses, oilseeds and many other crops.
