Yield by variety information put
out by the Manitoba Agricultural Services Corporation in their
annual "Yield Manitoba" report came to the same conclusion drawn
by large-scale trial programs across Western Canada last year:
InVigor® hybrid canola is the yield leader.
The yield averages were compiled from yield data submitted by
growers as part of their participation in Manitoba's crop
insurance program and take into account thousands of fields
covering over two million canola acres. The results confirm a
consistent yield advantage to InVigor canola hybrids over market
competitors.
"It's great news because another third-party is confirming that
nothing outperforms InVigor," said Brad Ewankiw, Oilseeds
Marketing Manager with
Bayer CropScience, developers of the InVigor line of canola
hybrids. "This confirms what we've been seeing throughout our
canola Demonstration Strip Trial (DST) results in Manitoba and
across the Prairies."
Ewankiw also points to the Prairie Canola Variety Trials (PCVT),
managed by the Canola Council of Canada, as the other
significant independent measure of yield performance. InVigor
canola hybrids earned the top seven yield positions in the 2008
PCVTs. It was the sixth consecutive year that the PCVT results
had InVigor hybrids on top - maintaining an unbroken streak as
the top yielder since the inception of the PCVTs in 2003.
Yielding an average 45 bu/ac on over 220,000 acres, InVigor 5440
outpaced leading competitors Nexera 845 by 9 bu/ac, Dekalb 7145
by 6 bu/ac and Pioneer Hi-Bred's 45H26 by 4 bu/ac in the Yield
Manitoba results.
By comparison, in Bayer CropScience's Demonstration Strip Trial
(DST) results for Western Canada, the top InVigor averaged 5.6
bu/ac more yield than Pioneer Hi-Bred's 45H26 and 6.2 bu/ac more
yield than Dekalb 71-45. In the Manitoba subset of the DST
results, the top InVigor had yields 8 to 12 percent ahead of
those same competitive hybrids.
"This third party information shows remarkable consistency
between our DST results, confirming our data as an accurate
comparison for the Manitoba market," said Ewankiw. "Because the
data provided by canola growers to their crop insurer covers all
insured acres, it's a very large data set, literally tabulating
millions of Manitoba canola acres. Performance in thousands of
fields is the ultimate trial and it shows a measure of
confidence in InVigor yields," concluded Ewankiw.
About the Trials and Data
Yield Manitoba is an annual publication of the Manitoba
Agricultural Services Corporation (MASC). The publication
features yield information by crop variety as well as
agroclimatic maps and a variety of other statistical
information. The yield results are available at

Demonstration Strip Trials (DSTs) have taken place at various
locations across the canola growing regions of the Prairies
since 1997, when Bayer CropScience first developed the concept.
In this grower-managed program, each plot has eight to 10 strips
of at least 35 feet wide x 500 feet long, replicated twice.
Strips are seeded and grown side-by-side under identical soil,
moisture, climatic conditions and agronomic practices to provide
meaningful results-straight from farmer's fields. More
information is available at
www.invigorresults.ca
The Prairie Canola Variety Trials (PCVT), managed by the Canola
Council of Canada, are replicated weed free trials that provide
information on the genetic capability of all canola types
entered into the trial. More information is available at

and
