Minneapolis, Minnesota
January 5, 1999AgrEvo's Liberty® Herbicide, a broad-spectrum
herbicide labelled to control over 40 broadleaf weeds and grasses, has received
Environmental Protection Agency approval for a Section 18 Specific exemption use on
LibertyLink® Canola in North Dakota and Minnesota for the 1999 growing season.
According to Brian Toole, Liberty Canola Market Manager, a maximum of 100,000 acres in
North
Dakota and 30,000 acres in Minnesota of LibertyLink canola may be treated with Liberty
Herbicide.
"Liberty Herbicide will provide growers with a unique mode-of-action and a convenient
postemerge
weed control program," says Toole. "Broad-spectrum weed control, in conjunction
with the crop
safety of Liberty, will make LibertyLink canola a viable crop option for North Dakota and
Minnesota farmers. The Liberty Herbicide program will allow growers to include LibertyLink
canola
in their rotation without any carryover restrictions.
"LibertyLink canola, under the name Phoenix, is an open-pollinated, good yielding
canola variety,"
Toole adds. "The strong agronomic package plus broad-spectrum weed control and crop
safety
provided by Liberty will enhance the desirability of this LibertyLink canola
variety."
Liberty Herbicide will be available through retail centers and distributors for the 1999
growing
season as allowed under Section 18 provisions.
