Canada Inc. is pleased to announce the appointment of DON BIGGIN
to the position of Sales and Production Coordinator for its
British Columbia operation, based in the lower mainland at
Abbotsford.
Don comes to Pickseed with an enviable record of
accomplishments in the seed industry. He has spent the past 25
years with a BC based seed company and knows all aspects of that
trade intimately.
Don is a graduate of the University of British Columbia with
a degree from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences.
Additionally, he holds membership in the BC Society of
Agrologists, and is a Director on the BC Forage Council,
representing the Canadian Seed Trade Association. He is also a
past Director of the Canadian Seed Trade Association and served
as President in 1998/99.
Don has an unique breadth and depth of knowledge of the BC
seed industry. The requirements of this market are varied and
unique as a result of the extreme variations of climate and
soils.
Pickseed has been directly involved in the BC market since
1997, we expect the addition of Don Biggin to build on the
momentum we have established in the sale of forage, turf and
seed corn products.

Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. JAY
HACKNEY, M. Sc. to the newly created position of Product and
Research Development Manager for Agricultural Products
associated with the sales activity of Pickseed’s eastern
Canadian Agricultural Business Unit.
This unit comprises both the Pickseed Retail Farm Products
and the Mapleseed Division. Pickseed has a history tracing over
50 years of delivering leading edge forages, seed corn and
silage inoculants to progressive livestock farmers. Mapleseed is
the successor to the Maple Leaf Mills Seed Department which has
an unbroken history of more than 100 years of seed trade.
Pickseed specializes in the sale and service of leading edge
, innovative forage crops, the most recent introductions being
Pickseed 2065MF alfalfa and TimPro Timothy. Pickseed’s leading
silage corn hybrids such as EXEL, ExSile, and ExMax are bringing
new levels of yield and feed quality to dairy and beef
producers.
Jay has been active at Pickseed since 1994, heading up Forage
Crop Development. Prior to that he was a successful soybean
breeder in Quebec. He is a graduate of MacDonald College at
McGill University and of Simon Fraser University in British
Columbia.
Jay will continue to operate the largest alfalfa testing and
development program in Canada as well as adding the evaluation
of related forage species. He will identify the newest and best
varieties and products for the sales distribution of Pickseed
and Mapleseed.
As well he will provide agronomic service to the company
encompassing leading edge technology transfer to the sales
groups, who in turn have ongoing and close contact with their
customer base; the farming community of eastern Canada.
Jay has an excellent background in plant science and
agriculture to assure a valuable contribution to Pickseed and
ultimately Canadian agriculture.
Jay will be based in Lindsay, Ontario at Pickseed’s head
office.

Pickseed Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of
DAVE LOCKMAN, B. Sc. to the newly created position of Sales and
Product Development Coordinator within the Wholesale Department
of Pickseed.
Dave comes to this position after serving more than two years
as Production Agronomist in the Eastern Farm Products area. He
is a B.Sc. graduate from the University of Guelph and Alfred
Agricultural College. He was raised on a dairy farm in Quebec.
During his tenure as agronomist he developed a high level of
skill analyzing varieties best suited for the needs of our
Pickseed Farm clientele.
Dave’s new responsibilities will include expanding the sales
base of the Wholesale department. His knowledge of the front
line application of improved plant genetics provides excellent
qualifications for this expanded activity.
Dave will be based in Lindsay, Ontario at Pickseed’s head
office.

Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of DOUG MACMILLAN
to the newly created position of Director of Professional
Turfgrass Sales.
Doug has been a valuable member of Pickseed Canada for over
35 years. His wealth of knowledge and experience has enabled him
to create a loyal following for Pickseed turfgrass products in
Eastern Canada.
In his new role, Doug will be responsible for sales and
program development in Eastern Canada. This includes overseeing
the activities of our eastern turf sales team and our turf
distributors in the Maritimes.
Doug will continue to operate out of Pickseed’s head office
in Lindsay, Ontario.
