Pickseed
Canada Inc. was pleased to welcome a delegation from the
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of China on September 10th at
its head office location in Lindsay, Ontario.
The delegation consisted of 18
animal and crop science specialists, keenly interested in the
improvement of crop production and animal nutrition.
Pickseed specialists presented
information explaining the cropping and feeding processes
undertaken in eastern Canada for both dairy and beef production.
The
group is pictured here with Mr. Jay Hackney M.Sc., product
development and research coordinator at Pickseed. Hackney gave
the group a lengthy and detailed description of the various
proprietary varieties developed, produced and distributed by
Pickseed. Many of these varieties, such as Pickseed 8925MF and
Able alfalfa are currently being successfully grown in China.
Pickseed Canada and its sister
company Pickseed West, Inc., of Oregon, both make significant
annual exports to China. The country is in the process of both
greening its environment, which has opened a market for turf
grass seeds, and improving the diet of the Chinise people,
leading to greater production of milk and meat. Alfalfa is a
major part of most dairy cattle diets, and varieties proven and
procured in Canada are gaining a broad acceptance there.
