DuPont and Monsanto announce glyphosate supply agreement
Wilmington, Delaware, and St. Louis, Missouri
January 10, 2000

DuPont and Monsanto Company announced today a global multi- year supply agreement that allows DuPont to purchase glyphosate herbicide from Monsanto for use in DuPont herbicide mixtures and in its own brands in the United States.

The agreement licenses rights to Monsanto's glyphosate herbicide registration data, which will allow DuPont the ability to register its own brand of glyphosate herbicide for sale in the United States beginning this year. The agreement also allows for certain DuPont-branded glyphosate products to be sold, once registered, for use over the top of Roundup Ready cotton and soybeans. Monsanto's Roundup and Roundup Ultra herbicides, which include the active ingredient glyphosate, and DuPont's glyphosate products will compete with each other in the agricultural marketplace.

According to James C. Borel, president, DuPont Crop Protection: ``Our mission is to help farmers
be more successful through technology and service. Adding glyphosate to our already strong
product portfolio will help us to continue achieving that goal, which is particularly critical in the very difficult farm economy in which we are currently operating.''

"This agreement is consistent with our vision of providing wide access to our traits and technology, while at the same time focusing on best business practices in our manufacturing and marketing areas,'' said Hugh Grant, president, Monsanto's Agricultural Group.
