University data confirms new mixes give more nutrients per bite without sacrificing yield

Data from multiple universities and independent trial sites continues to confirm that Ampac Seed Company’s Pasture PerfectÒ Improved Forage Mixtures provide not only higher feed value, but also improved yields. A recent lab analysis on four experimental Pasture Perfect Mixture formulations linked with yield data from multiple university sites has established the fact that the right formula will provide farmers with both tonnage and feed value.

"When we started the Pasture Perfect Program, we focused on developing mixtures that would give more nutrients per bite. We were pretty sure that the components had better feed value than some of the traditional grasses, as well as some of the newer varieties," says Jonathan Rupert, National Sales & Marketing Manager for Ampac Seed Company. "But what we are now seeing is, that if we formulate the right percentage of these components for each region and each application, we can not only provide better feed value, but can also give farmers excellent forage yields. It isn’t always necessary to sacrifice tonnage for feed value. With our ongoing research and independent testing, we expect to far surpass what is currently available on the market. We will continue to add new varieties to our program, as well as evaluate different mixture formulations. It is an ongoing process."

The 1998 Wisconsin planting had two experimental mixtures, Ampac PP1 and Ampac PP2. Current year data indicates both mixes yielding at least 119% of the trial mean, surpassing entries such as Haymate orchardgrass, Stampede orchardgrass, Warrior orchardgrass, Grand Daddy perennial ryegrass, TF33 tall fescue, and Climax timothy. Similar results were reported last year at the University of Kentucky - Lexington, where Ampac’s PP1 and PP2 mixes were 1st and 2nd in the grazing trial, out-yielding the trial average by over 129%. Similar results have been reported at a number of other independent research facilities throughout the nation.

Committed to determining the best mixes for each region, Ampac Seed Company now has more than 150 trial entries in independent forage and grazing trials throughout the USA and Canada, including New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, Mississippi, Texas, Georgia, Florida, Colorado, Washington, Oregon, California, Alaska, British Columbia, and New Brunswick.
