EnviroLogix Inc. and
Monsanto Company today announced an agreement under which EnviroLogix will have access to certain Monsanto proprietary
antibodies and proteins to develop test kits for various transgenic traits.
Under terms of the non-exclusive licensing agreement, EnviroLogix will be able to develop and market
tests for a number of current and new transgenic traits, including RoundupReady(R) (CP4-EPSPS protein)
soybeans, cotton, and canola, as well as certain Bt insect-protection traits in corn and cotton.
EnviroLogix plans to have some of these new tests available by early summer. These tests are expected
to provide additional tools for quality assurance for seed developers and producers in assessing the
quality and purity of new varieties throughout development and production. Test kits will also be useful in
grain testing applications, where identification of specific genetic traits is important for effective identity
preservation programs.
EnviroLogix provides these novel tests for agricultural biotechnology trait detection in two different formats.
The QuickStix(TM) strip or "dipstick" type format provides simple yes/no results in 2-10 minutes, and is
therefore ideally suited for testing seed and grain from trucks and containers, in the field, or wherever
speed is critical. The ELISA plate format provides quantitative results in approximately 2 hours, and
allows for efficient testing of multiple samples at one time. Detailed information on all EnviroLogix trait kits
is available at: www.envirologix.com/gmupdate1.html
Roundup Ready is a registered trademark of Monsanto Company.
