| This
exceptionally lovely Columbine is the only one native to the eastern
United States.
It has drooping red and yellow flowers with straight red
spurs.
This hardy perennial grows to a height of 18-30 inches, and the
flower stalks arise from a group of basal leaves. It blooms from mid
spring to early summer.
The spurs of Eastern Columbine contain sweet
nectar that attracts bumblebees and hummingbirds.
Eastern
Columbine is ideal for rock gardens, rocky slopes, prairie gardens, shady
gardens or woodlands. It is easily propagated from seed.
