USA - Midwest farmers prepare for first FieldScripts harvest

St. Louis, Missouri, USA
October 28, 2013

In 2013, more than 150 farmers in the launch states of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Minnesota trialed FieldScripts® through Monsanto’s Ground Breakers® program. Ground Breakers farmers are reporting a successful first season with the simplicity and precision that FieldScripts provided during planting.

As we begin harvest season, this is the time for interested farmers to capture harvest and other information in order to purchase FieldScripts for 2014 from their FieldScripts Certified DEKALB® dealer in the four launch states. Visit the DEKALB online representative and dealer locator to find a certified dealer near you.

FieldScripts integrates Monsanto’s understanding of seed performance with data farmers provide about their individual fields to identify the best corn seed products and provide a variable rate planting prescription for each field. The process is led by FieldScripts Certified DEKALB Dealers, delivered through the FieldView® Plus app on the farmer’s iPad® device, and executed with precision equipment on the planter.

Ground Breakers farmer Ryan Roberts in Orion, Ill. is pleased with the data and variable rate planting capabilities that FieldScripts provides. “FieldScripts has improved our farming operation. It’s been a good first year and we’re excited for the future. We’ve been able to compare a lot of data, find the right varieties and their sweet spots in terms of seeding rate for our fields.”

Roberts feels that the combination of simplicity and variable rate planting technology will be a huge asset to his farm and the industry. “I think FieldScripts is going to be one of the most powerful things that have happened to our industry. We’ve had this data for 10 years, but we haven’t had direction on where to go with it. FieldScripts provides that direction, and I think it could provide the biggest yield jump we’ve ever had.”

For farmers interested in FieldScripts, 2013 harvest is a great opportunity to gather the information needed to purchase FieldScripts in 2014 or 2015. The data listed below is necessary to build FieldScripts for your fields.

Yield Data:

  • Minimum of 2 years of raw corn/soybean yield data that covers 85% of the targeted field
  • If farming an area impacted significantly by drought in 2012, 3 years of data is required

Check with your FieldScripts Certified DEKALB dealer to see what file formats work best.

Soil Data:

  • Soil tests from 2011, 2012 or 2013
  • Sampling must be from 3 acres or less and referenced to a grid
  • Depth of sample must be 0-6" or 0-8"
  • Organic matter, water pH, buffer pH, CEC, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium and EC (soluble salts) West of the Mississippi River

This farmer data, combined with many layers of information from Monsanto about our corn hybrid performance, is used to develop individualized hybrid match recommendations and a variable rate seeding prescription for each field.

Farmers who purchase FieldScripts this year can look forward to a simpler and more efficient variable rate planting experience. Ground Breakers farmer Alan Metzger of Charleston, Ill. appreciated the ease of use of FieldScripts in an always hectic planting season. “All I had to do when I came to the field was click on the field on the monitor, and the prescription for that field came up. It was just as easy as changing any field or variety. We think FieldScripts will impact our operation for the better.”
