Adding value
to the product portfolio from innovative breeding represents a
major part of a sustainable future for any seed company.
Companies that look outside their own market and take some
time to study how profit can be made from new varieties and
marketing techniques will be the ones that grow on a
sustainable basis.
A detailed study of world climate
regions is the place to start. For regions such as California
there is no point in looking at continental Europe for
proprietary forage varieties. Australia and Spain are more
closely related from a climatic point of view.
As a consequence of the above issues
I believe that we will end up with fewer turf seed companies
and more companies that specialize in the forage market,
particularly in the USA.
