Modern technology increasingly turns plants into renewable resources used to produce fuel, plastics, vaccines, etc. Is this evolution likely to change the function of seed companies, especially if they integrate downstream to capture a larger share of the added value their products create?
I don't believe this will dramatically change the role of seed companies -
rather it will provide seed companies with new and expanded market
opportunities.

For instance, the case of ethanol is a great example in this
situation. Has the role of ethanol drastically changed seed companies' role
in the industry? No - it has added a new opportunity to the industry.

I think this will become even more important as new technologies like those
you mentioned are introduced.
