What long term
role does Monsanto want to play in the seed industry? Is this
role changing over the years?
Since the
introduction of Monsanto biotech traits in the mid 1990's we
have
seen these technologies deliver tremendous returns for our
customers through their on-farm benefits as well as provide
our company with an opportunity to re-invest in the future of
this industry.
We're proud of what we've been able to offer American growers
these past few years. To date, Monsanto - through our seed
brands and licensing partners - have introduced at least one
new technology each year for the past six years. These
products are aimed at helping growers maintain a competitive
edge in the ag marketplace and delivering benefits to the
grower's operation.
Today, we're continuing to invest in the future of
agriculture. We are a
company that is fully focused on agriculture.
Monsanto invests approximately $500 million annually to
research new solutions for growers - looking at ways to keep
growers at the forefront of a competitive global market.
Broadly, our investment is focused on new biotech traits,
elite germplasm and continued breeding efforts, new Roundup
formulations, commitment to new variety and hybrid
development, and genomics research.
In the coming years, Monsanto also looks forward to gaining
regulatory
approval for our next generation of traits developed through
biotechnology.
These traits include YieldGard Rootworm corn and Bollgard II
cotton.
