Generally speaking, input traits benefit farmers whereas output traits
benefit consumers. How soon do you believe will output traits become more important than input traits in acreages and crop values?
Given the continued research and development milestones that lie ahead for
all organizations doing research in the next generations of biotech traits,
we're probably still a little ways from placing specific timelines on many
of the future products. But, its probably useful to think of the whole
field in a wider context: biotechnology today is where the computer industry
was in the 1950s.

The coming decades are poised to bring us biotech products as revolutionary
and important to us as computers are today. As scientists continue to make
technological breakthroughs, we will see truly revolutionary products,
including foods that are more healthy and help fight disease.

The first generation of products today -- the input traits -- are setting the stage as researchers from companies, universities and research institutions work on the products of tomorrow.
