Lindane withdrawal
Following
several months of lobbying the Pest Management Review Agency
announced they would permit the sale of carryover canola seed
treated with lindane for the spring 2002 planting season. In
exchange for consideration to plant the seed, industry has
agreed to the following conditions:
The industry will conduct
(currently under way) an information campaign to encourage
growers to deliver any grown from lindane-treated seed to
country elevators and not to crushers.
Any remaining treated seed will be
disposed of following the 2002 planting season accotrding to
provincial guidelines.
There is no use of lindane seed
treatment allowed following planting. Any further treating
of canola seed with lindane is enforceable by the PMRA.
