Yes, as we
develop alliances with international partners the exchange of
germplasm and technologies will provide opportunities for
farmers around the globe.Our
wheat breeding program is responsible for developing varieties
characterised by high yield, premium grain quality with good
tolerance to pre-harvest rain damage, dryland adaptation,
drought tolerance, hardiness with respect to leaf rust, stripe
rust and especially stem rust and tolerance to yellow spot,
crown rot and root lesion nematode – a recent release has also
been classified as tolerant to acid soils.
I am sure wheat producers in other
countries would also benefit from such technologies.
