One achievement would certainly be to have developed a
small family-owned company with little resources over 17 years
and turned it into one of the major three vegetable seed companies in South
Africa by 1983.
Another perhaps is to have been pioneers
in the introduction and development of hybrid vegetable
varieties of almost all species over that period in South
Africa where open pollinated varieties were commonly used - with
the exception of hybrid cabbage, which was established in the
early sixties.
Perhaps also to have personally
worked with the food processing industry – freezing and
canning – in developing and establishing suitable new
varieties in an industry which is known to be slow to change.
Even today it is my privilege and pleasure to still work with
these organizations in a hands-on strategy for the best
variety for their market requirements, quick response, good
communication, technical support and of course at the right
prices!
