What are the major forces that drive the seed industry
and its evolution today?
The main force is the competitive spirit in a free market environment.

The vegetable seed market is characterized by ongoing introduction of new varieties to serve specific consumer preferences, F1 hybrids being the major driver. Pasture/forage seeds have a large element of commodity trading.

The hybrid corn market is the most competitive with some 300 hybrids on the official variety list. Strong competition ensures adherence to quality standards.
