Seed Physiologist

Location: Alvin, Texas, USA

Responsibilities

  • The Seed Physiologist is responsible for studying physiological processes of rice plants interacting in seed production environments. 
  • The Physiologist is responsible for planning, supervising, and conducting field, greenhouse and laboratory studies to understand responses of rice seed-producing crops to seed production environmental parameters (radiation, air moisture, carbon dioxide, wind, temperature, irrigation water, soil) and design crop management strategies that enhance seed yield, seed quality and seed yield stability. 
  • The Physiologist will have daily interaction and must coordinate activities with personnel from multiple areas of the business including Production, Foundation, Quality, Research, Breeding and Pathology. 
  • In addition the Physiologist is responsible for developing seed handling and storage practices to improve seed shelf life and seed quality. 

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. or equivalent with 2 years work experience and significant contributions in seed physiology or a commercial hybrid breeding program with field work experience.
