Cucumber Pathology & Upstream Breeding Responsible

To support our research activities in Turkey we are currently recruiting a
Cucumber Pathology and Upstream Breeding Responsible
Reporting to the Senior Cucumber breeder based in France, and in close collaboration with the Pathology Unit Manager, the successful candidate will work with great autonomy and initiative on our cucumber breeding program. The Cucumber Pathology and Upstream Breeding Responsible will be in charge of pathology tasks (40%) and upstream trials (60%). Based at Antalya Research Station, this position will work closely with the senior and junior breeders regarding the various tasks linked to our breeding program.
Main Mission:
Upstream breeding activities (60%)
- Close cooperation with the molecular laboratory (leaf lyophilization samples sending …)
- Be involved in segregating breeding material in non-elite germplasm
- Implement physiological trials concerning root system activity (“cold” injury, salinity tolerance) and fruit filling speed
- Investigate grafting in cucumber
- Create and maintain valuable contacts with laboratoies
- Prepare relevant reports that add value to the team
Pathology activities (40%)
- Organize and manage laboratory material
- Create and maintain a pathology strain collection
- Create traceability tools (picture database, protocols …)
- Plan, organize and coordinate pathology tests in growth chamber, shade house, and field: sowing, inoculums preparation, inoculation, test follow up, evaluation and analysis of results
- Perform and/or coordinate diagnostic tests for the area
- Possible participation in pathology activities for other crops.
- Regular reporting of activities to the International Pathology Unit Manager.
Profile:
- University degree or equivalent higher education in Plant Pathology
- Laboratory experience and familiar with experimental and statistical techniques
- General understanding of molecular biology, physiology and plant genetic improvement
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized with attention to details
- Autonomous, reliable and self motivated
- Proficient user of IT tools and software (Pack office pro)
- English (spoken and written)
