Global Production Improvement Technician (Solanaceae)

Location: Israel, Peru or The Netherlands

Are you an experienced technician in tomato and pepper cropping? Are you ready for a next step in your career and do you want to work in an international company? For the production department we are looking to recruit a Global Production Improvement Technician (Solanaceae).

Job purpose

For the species tomato and pepper design and discover new production procedures to improve overall reliability of crop results by maximizing the seed quality and yield. Through novel efforts apart from standard protocol; propose ways to resolve issues and challenges that occur in the species crop management.

Major Accountabilities

  • Collect all initial trials big or small in the species and inform Global Production Manager (GPM) and Seed production research on this, in order to optimize our trial efforts.
  • Based on input from Breeders and GPM coordinate field trials to provide information to GPM on the production characteristics of existing and potential seed parents.
  • In concert with Seed Tech, Seed Production Research in specific, set up/design field experiments. Have regular meetings with them to allow a technology push and optimize mutual information exchange.
  • Correlate crop data with production factors such as climate.
  • Train people like an Area Crop Specialists (ACS) and Field Technicians (FT) on data collection. Maintain clear contact with respective field responsible to ensure the trial execution activities will be according plan.
  • Plan and perform trials to increase knowledge on crop physiology and plant response to production methods.
  • Maintain and add new performance data to our existing production database information.
  • Make recommendations to GPM and breeders on the feasibility of new parent lines for successful production.
  • Provide information to guide production methods and production location decisions.
  • Using close coordination and visits or parallel trialing with Breeders. Discuss with the respective Breeders to promote produce ability of new material.
  • Review and update crop protocols yearly in conjunction with the GPM’s and Production Manager.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy, Biology or other related field;
  • Broad agronomic background with emphasis on plant physiology, experimental design and data management;
  • Familiarity with production research practices and field plot techniques;
  • Experience in tomato and pepper cropping, preferably seed production
  • Good communication skills, works very well with others;
  • Computer competent: Microsoft Word, Excel.
  • Frequent international travel is required for this position.
