Research Associate (RES00002125)
Location: Moorhead, Minnesota, USA The Research Associate performs duties essential to a comprehensive commercial soybean breeding program, including working with regulated transgenic traits. The Research Associate will manage day-to-day field and lab operations related to a soybean research breeding program. This includes seed and information preparation, planting, herbicide applications, plot maintenance, plot harvest, data collection/interpretation, disease screening and molecular marker experiments. This individual may organize and supervise work of seasonal employees and occasionally regular employees.
Some lifting (up to 50 lbs) may be required. This position will require extended hours and overnight trips to off-site locations during peak periods. Additional travel may be necessary to assist at off-season nursery locations. Continuous training will be required in order to obtain new skills needed for utilization of new technologies and to stay current with changes in the industry.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or scientific-related field and 0-2 years of industry related experience required, or equivalent levels of relevant education and experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills are required.
- Must be competent with computer hardware and software programs.
- Ability to effectively use in-house software tools, handheld devices and comfortable working with large datasets is required.
- Candidates should possess a demonstrated ability to work effectively on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- The candidate must have the ability to train, supervise, and motivate temporary employees and have the ability to work as a strong team member as well as work independently when needed.
- Ability to operate farm and research equipment is preferred but not required.
- Candidate must be able to obtain a Class A CDL and commercial pesticide applicator’s license.
- Additional certifications may be required in the future.
- May be required to work in varying ergonomic environments.
