Research Scientist
Location: Thriplow, Royston, United Kingdom KWS is one of the most innovative and long established plant breeding/seed companies worldwide. We are seeking to recruit at the earliest opportunity a full-time
Research Scientist (m/f)
to work in the area of hybrid wheat and pre-breeding.
The position is within the Research and Development team at KWS UK Ltd.
based in Thriplow, south of Cambridge, UK.
In this position you will collaborate with KWS’ global hybrid wheat team as well as work with KWS’ UK-based R&D and breeding teams. You will report to the Wheat Research Breeder. Your tasks and responsibilities:
- Work with hybrid wheat research and breeding
- Actively participate in our hybrid wheat team
- Review and update breeding-related research, in particular within trait genetics
- Participate in our pre-breeding activities in close collaboration with our R&D and breeding teams
- Collect and analyse phenotypic data and carry out genomic association studies
- Undertake large amount of field and greenhouse work and help out in different technical teams during busy peak periods, including supervising seasonal workers
- Support the wheat research breeder in external research projects
Your profiles:
- Completed or almost completed PhD in plant sciences, preferably within a field crop or MSc with 3+ years of experience in a relevant research position
- Strong interest to work in plant breeding for a large, international company
- Experience in analysis of phenotypic and genotypic data
- Knowledge or experience in plant breeding, basic genetics and practical agriculture are all strong rolex replica assets
- Willingness to work long hours in the field during the cropping cycle, undertaking a wide range of tasks including physically demanding work
- Highly motivated and an ability to work both independently as well as in teams
- Fluent in English; knowledge of French or German is an asset
- Valid driving license essential
