Seed Processing Operator

Location: San Luis Obispo, California, USA

Position: Seed Processing Operator
Reporting to: Warehouse Manager

Job summary

Responsible for quality and lot integrity of all Processing activities, including receiving, sampling, moisture testing, disinfection, drying, sizing, labeling and packaging.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the policies and procedures to ensure quality and delivery dates are met.
  • Follow procedures accurately and communicate any deviations.
  • Any mistakes, nonconformance with protocol, or unexpected conditions will be communicated immediately to a supervisor.
  • Ensure lot quality and integrity throughout all processes and movement of seed.
  • Pull seed inventory samples for product sampling or seed testing and auditing following established procedures
  • Insure accuracy of physical and system locations.
  • Recording weight adjustments.
  • Assure that inventory is physically maintained in accordance with established storage and warehousing standards.
  • Consolidate inventory lots and maximize use of available warehouse space in accordance with seasonal flow.
  • Receive in all inventory items delivered to facility.
  • Follow exact procedures and specifications in regards to drying, disinfecting and all other seed processes, recording all weight adjustments.
  • Operate in a knowledgeable, accurate and safe manner various equipment including dryers of various types, disinfection equipment, seed counters and moisture testing machines.
  • Pass forklift truck training and safety.
  • Operate forklift trucks safely to move seed or other materials
  • Ensure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is used and correctly applied.
  • Clean and maintain all equipment, bins, bags and other seed containers.
  • Locate, weigh and inspect seed lots to be treated adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Perform all sampling, seed count testing, moisture testing and final fit procedures according to procedure.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize the printing of labels with efficiency and accuracy.
  • Process work orders as assigned with accuracy.
  • Supervise of temporary employees
  • Assist in training new employees
  • Adhere to and maintain good housekeeping practices for all assigned areas.
  • Responsible for the safety. Adhering to the company safety policy, building a culture of caring.
  • Carry out other activities and responsibilities as directed.

  • Timeliness of processing activities from receipt of crop from production to shipment of seed to customer
  • Product quality meets company standards
  • High accuracy level is required due to error sensitivity of activities
  • Ability to work as a cross-functional team member at various peak times with energy necessary to complete assigned goals
  • Analytical and reasoning abilities
  • Listens well, learns quickly, follows instructions & protocols, and recognizes errors and processes/tasks not fully understood.
  • Good communication skills; both written and verbal

Qualifications and Abilities

  • Two to Five years’ experience in manufacturing and/or agricultural operations
  • Proven ability to operate a forklift and/or reach truck safely and competently
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and familiar with ERP system
  • Exposure to heat, dust, potential hazardous chemicals, and noise
  • Ability to lift up to sixty-five rolex replica pounds
  • Good English communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work shifts and/or some Saturdays as required
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in both an office setting and outdoors
  • Clean driving record

Education Requirements

  • Associate degree in agriculture, horticulture or related field is preferred.

Work Authorization:

  • U.S. Work Authorization required
