Associate Breeder CU (FT)
To be located at our site in Haelen, the Netherlands /
frequent international travel (15 – 20 %)
Can you anticipate on the specific market segments of CU, allowing a short time-to-market and within the budget set for the CU breeding program, in order to develop commercially successful varieties. Are you able to replace the breeder CU for short to medium term periods and to produce sufficient, high quality stock seed of parental lines/varieties?
Your activities
In this position you will assist the Breeder CU.
Research
• Design, evaluate and formulate with the Breeder the short term breeding plan. Represents the Breeder in optimizing the efficiency and output of the breeding program. You will cooperate in designing and implementing new technologies and breeding methods in order to ensure a constant flow of commercially successful varieties.
Breeding trials and data Management
• Design and plan breeding trials in deliberation with the Breeder. Evaluate, analyze, interpret and document autonomously. You give feedback, make proposals and draw conclusions in order to optimize the efficiency and output of the breeding program.
Basic stock seeds
• Manage and execute the increase and maintenance of the stock seed in order to ensure the availability of the quantity and quality of basic stock seeds.
Administration
• Manage an accurate and detailed breeding administration within the breeding team, conform the procedures and guidelines in the breeding department, in order to enable the running of an efficient and effective breeding program.
Management
• Coordinate and communicate the daily breeding program activities to the technical assistant(s) and the crop technicians within the breeding team and provide them with technical advice in order to meet agreed standards, time planning and budgets.
Do you meet our profile?
- BSc/ MSc in horticulture, plant breeding, genetics or closely related field;
- Working knowledge of genetics and plant breeding, horticultural practices and procedures;
- 5 or more years of experience in plant breeding;
- Experience and skills; Team player, Leading skills in general, Organization and planning, Operate specialized breeding and research equipment,
- Computer skills: management information systems, databases’, spread sheets;
- Communication skills
- Functional competencies: analytical thinking, interpersonal skills, convincing, solving problems, entrepreneurship, innovative.
- Language skills: English (Must)
