Sales Agronomist
Location: Southeastern U.S. DESCRIPTION:
Sales Agronomist needed to support sales activities for forage sorghum as well as other crops in the Southeastern US. Roles include customer interaction and support as well as implementation and supervision field trials of several crop species at multiple locations within a multi-state region. Information from these trials will be used to a) select optimal forage and dedicated energy crops for each specified location; b) establish geography-specific grower best practices and grower guides for selected species and varieties; and c) interact with customers and growers to provide variety and geographic-specific advice for best management practices.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain contact with and provide support to existing customers.
- Assist with experiment planning and design.
- Manage planting, monitoring and harvesting of field trials.
- Conduct/arrange and supervise necessary agronomy activities including field preparation, nutrient management, pest control, trial establishment, management harvest and storage of biomass.
- Support upkeep and maintenance of some field plot equipment.
- Oversee and/or conduct data collection and some analysis.
- Assist with regulatory compliance management and permit applications
- Assist with sales effort in assigned region.
- Manage and monitor trial fields from planting to harvest.
- Participation in strategy, planning and review meetings.
REQUIREMENTS:
- B.S. with 5 years experience.
- Competent with conventional farm or construction equipment and operation.
- Able to work independently, be capable of solving logistical scheduling issues.
- Experience in experimental design and basic statistical analysis (SAS proficiency preferred).
- Familiarity with sorghum as forage. Other grasses/forage experience a plus.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proven organizational and computer skills (Microsoft Suite).
This position is in Southeastern U.S. region. Relocation may be required.
Travel is expected, especially during the growing season.
