Hazera is one of the business units within the vegetable seed division of Limagrain. Limagrain is an international agricultural co-operative and one of the leading seed companies worldwide.

For our breeding activities in vegetables we are looking for an Onion Breeder. 

The breeder will be responsible for line and hybrid development for the global long day onion market.

The breeder will be based at our breeding facilities in Pasco, WA, and will report to the NAFTA onion breeding lead.

Your tasks & responsibilities:

• Provide leadership, management and support to local breeding team
• Develop a deep knowledge of all aspects of the breeding program and global long day onion markets
• Create and execute annual and mid-term plans in alignment with strategic objectives and product/market requirements
• Deliver innovative onion hybrids while ensuring long-term productivity of the genetic resources and parent line development process
• Cooperate with global product development, production and breeding technology teams to meet company objectives
• Participate in breeding operational activities, overseeing quality of product and process
• Keep abreast of scientific and technological developments in the field.
• Actively contribute to the company’s R&D community
• Implement and integrate breeding technologies

Desired skills and experience:

• PhD or MSc in Genetics, Plant Breeding or related fields.
• Experience in agronomy, genetics, plant pathology, breeding program management
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, team player
• Highly motivated, analytical and results-driven; able to influence others to achieve business objectives
• Able to tolerate hot field conditions, as well as seasonal peaks of activities, including international travel
• Onion experience preferred but not necessary
