We are looking for a highly motivated colleague to work as a Research Associate in the NAFTA Plant Health team. The Research Associate will primarily be responsible for supporting activities in the field of (molecular) plant pathology. This is an excellent opportunity to work with cutting edge technology and talented cross functional stakeholders seeking to deliver the best tools to improve the genetics of our vegetable seeds.
Key Business Accountabilities:
- Performing laboratory, greenhouse and field pathology assays
- Performing a variety of laboratory functions, including preparation of media and buffers, DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, qRT-PCR, and other duties as assigned
- Setting up diagnostics screening tools
- Help the team with improving the way of working
- Helping to implement and utilize modern breeding technology tools and software
- Conducting database management and basic bio-informatics activities
- Collecting and analyzing phenotypic and molecular data
- Interacting with a variety of stakeholders and supporting groups, including research, breeding, manufacturing, technology development
- Actively participating in ESH programs
Required Education/Skills:
- MSc in Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Breeding, Biology or related field of study.
- 2+ years of experience in (molecular) pathology work
- Ability to work independently to troubleshoot processes and procedures, yet able to work in a matrix organization in order to implement needed changes.
- Ability to track and manage projects • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to supervise temporary labour
- Computer proficiency, particular MS Office, bio-informatics tools, database management
- Comfortable with laboratory, greenhouse & field work
- Experience with ISO is a plus
- Excellent communication skills (English & Spanish fluent) both written and verbal
