Computational Scientist (m/f) plant Innovation center
Location: Gent, full time
What will you do as Computational Scientist?
- Participate to the development and leveraging of the Computational Life Sciences platform (from data management to data analysis) for our plant breeding & research activities.
- Propose and implement novel analysis strategies adapted to breeders & researchers needs. Develop or adapt specific tools necessary to the treatment and analysis of the different project data.
- Ensure the support of the users by diffusing regular information on the computational analysis novelties, by training them when necessary to the different tools available on the CLS platform.
- Ensure the compliance with all existing safety standards in the area of responsibility taking into account laws, regulations and directives and evaluate potential risks of the research activities.
- Participate in external scientific cooperation(s) on specific field.
- Report progress in relation to critical milestones to Program Leaders and End-users.
For whom are we looking ?
- Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or Master's degree in a relevant field of Computational Biology / Bioinformatics with at least 3 years of successful experience in bioinformatics/biostatistics.
- The position requests experience with phenotyping & breeding. Additional knowledge in bioanalysis (sequence analysis, genetic mapping, genome annotation, comparative genomics and systems biology) would be a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge with programming language(s) typically used for bioinformatics applications (e.g. Python, Perl, etc.) and statistical/mathematical packages such as R. Additional experience in programmatic database usage and heterogeneous data integration would be advantageous.
- We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with strong interpersonal, organizational, technical, leadership and communication skills and an ability to work in cross-functional team settings in a highly innovating research environment.
- You are proficient in English.
