In the division Research & Development the Bio-Informatics team provides data analytics and management support for the Bayer Crop Science vegetable breeding programs.

For the Bio-Informatics team we are looking for ambitious candidates for the fulltime position of:

Research Assistant Bio-informatics

You will be based in the Netherlands (location Nunhem) and will report to the Scientist Bio-informatics.

Your mission as Research Assistant Bio-informatics
As a Research Assistant Bio-informatics you will works on providing data management, integration and analysis support for the Marker Assisted Breeding, and Trait Development teams in the Research department. This involves integration and management of data from NGS-based projects, as well as providing various genomics and bioinformatics analysis for the genetics researchers using open source, commercial and proprietary solutions. The Research Assistant Bioinformatics will work in close collaboration with the Bayer CropScience Computational Life Science groups in Europe and the USA, as well as external parties.

Your tasks & responsibilities

  • Analysis of large data sets generated with the latest molecular marker and sequencing technologies.
  • Data management and bioinformatics analysis for diverse breeding programs.
  • Provide consultancy for data analysis to molecular breeding and genomics department. (internal customers)
  • Develop and improve analysis software and pipelines.

You are a professional with

  • B.Sc. in Bioinformatics, or in the field of Molecular Genetics or Genomics with a strong affinity for Bioinformatics.
  • Experience in Python and/or Perl (Must).
  • Experience with relational database systems.
  • Proficiency in the use of Unix/Linux operating systems (Must).
  • Experience with management of complex experimental datasets.
  • Experience in NGS-based bioinformatics analysis
  • Fluent in English, both verbally and in writing (Must).
