For our site in Sant’Agata Bolognese (BO), we are looking for a Pre-Breeder, Pepper (m/f).  

Job description

You will be responsible to lead in a structured way the trait- and pre-breeding activities in pepper.

These activities will support the mainstream breeding in three ways:

• Developing gene pools with specific traits.
• Developing the molecular tools to transfer traits into the breeding program.
• Developing genetic knowledge to improve selection efficiency.

Your qualifications

• PhD in plant breeding or genetics
• In depth working knowledge of horticulture, agronomy, genetics, pathology, statistics, physiology, and molecular genetics.
• Project management, data analysis, data management
• Population development, experimental design, phenotyping
• Experience in working with multi gene traits.
• Must be able to communicate well with peers to develop common projects.
• Must be able to manage several projects at the same time.
• Willing to travel to places of interest for the pre-breeding;
• Creative, pragmatic, consistent and persistent.
• Good communicative and interpersonal skills; team player.
• Client focused and result driven.
• Feeling for the marketing aspects related to downstream customers.
• Able to translate customers problems into novel genetic solutions.
• Analytical thinking, innovative and problem solving.
• Fluency in English is a must.
