Manage and execute a basic and applied research program in plant physiology, focusing on discovery and early development of new plant growth enhancing products and on support and expansion of uses for existing plant growth regulator products.
Principal Responsibilities:
Provide scientific expertise in the area of plant physiology as a member of an interdisciplinary research team.
Design, conduct, analyze and interpret laboratory, growth chamber, greenhouse, and field research studies in the area of plant physiology with a focus on enhancing crop productivity, crop stress management, growth enhancement and crop management using biorational substances and microorganisms.
Develop a global network of university, government, and other 3rd party contacts that can serve as a pool of potential research collaborators for researching and developing plant growth enhancing products.
Provide leadership to a team of plant scientists in the discovery and evaluation of new technology for agronomic, temperate and tropical fruit, nut, vine, and vegetable crops.
Find new uses for and support existing plant growth regulator products.
Supervise and mentor direct report(s).
Participate in cross-functional new product development and product life cycle management project teams.
Experience:
Five years or more post-PhD experience conducting independent research is preferred.
Strong background in whole-plant physiology and crop production, and hands-on research experience in field, greenhouse, and growth chamber experimentation.
Demonstrated ability to conceive novel hypotheses regarding crop performance, and the ability to test the hypotheses in the laboratory and field.
A track record demonstrating plant growth regulator experience. Working familiarity with biostimulants a definite plus.
Hands-on familiarity with common laboratory equipment, field-based high-throughput phenotyping and associated data acquisition and processing.
Root research experience in morphogenesis and root-shoot signaling.
Research experience in the imposition and quantification of drought stress.
Working knowledge of experimental design, statistics and use of associated computer software.
Working knowledge and experience in plant molecular biology
Skills:
Demonstrated ability to lead a team of research scientists is required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Solid track record of using innovative approaches to developing new products, and a clear sense of urgency in getting things done.
Routine use of MS software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Prior experience with electronic notebooks a definite plus.
Working knowledge of statistics and use of associated computer software
Education:
PhD degree in Plant Physiology, Agronomy, Horticulture or related field.
Post-doctoral experience in relevant field a definite plus
