Description
Eurofins BioDiagnostics, Inc. is seeking an energetic and creative scientist to oversee testing services for transgenic products in alfalfa, canola, corn, cotton, soybean, and rice seed. This position is a unique and challenging opportunity to manage the technical aspects of high throughput testing to confirm event identity, event zygosity, and verify the absence of unintended events using appropriate techniques for adventitious or low-level presence testing. The biotechnology pipeline has many products that are changing the seed industry and plant breeders and seed producers need an ever expanding set of services to qualify their products. To keep pace with all the new products entering the market, the DNA Manager will oversee the implementation and validation of new tests. The DNA Manager will ensure that EBDI has the appropriate platforms for each testing service. The DNA Manager will provide technical expertise and have a comprehensive knowledge of endpoint, real-time, and digital PCR as well as the various chemistries that can be employed. The DNA Manager will oversee all testing within the lab as well as manage budget and staff. The ability to incorporate new technologies into the program will be an essential component of this position. The DNA Manager will be able to design the appropriate testing programs for plant breeders conducting trait integration and seed producers marketing both GMO and non-GMO products. A sound understanding of statistics especially as it pertains to adventitious presence testing is desired. The DNA Manager will lead the sales effort for these services, meet with customers and develop plans to meet their specific needs, and will represent EBDI at industry meetings to promote EBDI’s testing services.
Qualifications
- Ph.D. Degree in molecular biology, plant breeding or related field.
- Demonstrated success in the field of plant biotechnology.
- Comprehensive knowledge of transgenic products in agriculture including testing needs in the seed industry.
- Creativity, initiative, and self-motivation are essential for this position.
- Experience with staff management.
- Able to sell services to potential customers.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with robotics and high-throughput process design is a plus.
Position is full-time, Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., with overtime as needed. Candidates currently living within a commutable distance of River Falls, Wisconsin are encouraged to apply.
