Research Associate

Location: Fargo, North Dakota, USA

Position overview:

The National Agricultural Genotyping Center (NAGC) is looking for qualified individuals with demonstrated experience in genetics, biology or agronomy.

Founded as a joint project of Los Alamos National Laboratories and the National Corn Growers Association, NAGC is a not-for-profit corporation that operates laboratory facilities utilizing the newest, patented technologies.

The Mission of NAGC is to translate scientific discoveries into solutions for production agriculture, food safety, functional foods, bioenergy and national security. See www.genotypingcenter.com.  

Qualified applicants will have PhD in genetics, biology, agronomy, or a closely related discipline, knowledge and skills in at least some of the following areas:  Development of multiplexed assays for rapid detection and characterization, genetics, plant breeding, genomic database, oligo design, statistics. Strong communication and data processing skills are essential. Strong analysis and writing capability is required.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience

Responsibilities:

  • Under the direction of laboratory manager, carry out innovative, impactful research and assay design that leads to novel and important scientific outcomes;
  • Perform association analyses to link genotypic variation with different phenotypes;
  • Manage and update databases and genotype information;
  • Interact with industry stakeholders;
  • Produce high quality scientific papers suitable for publication in quality journals, for client reports and granting of patents;
  • Contribute to the development of innovative concepts and ideas for further research.

Location:

Fargo, North Dakota; at the USDA/ARS facility on the campus of North Dakota State University. 
Relocation provided.

Minimum requirements:

To be considered you will hold a PhD (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in Agricultural Research, Plant Biology, Genetics, or a related discipline.

Desired qualifications:

  • • Proficiency with database software
  • • An ability to communicate with a diverse audience including researchers, plant breeders and growers;
  • • The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research;
  • • A record of science innovation and creativity, plus the ability and willingness to incorporate novel ideas and approaches into scientific investigations.
