Research Assistant, Plant Biology

Location: Davis, California, USA

The Agrinos Plant Biology, Research Associate will work closely with the Agrinos Research Discovery and Product Development Teams to help collect, organize, interpret, and report efficacy and performance of our biological products. This role will report to the Agrinos Plant Biology Research Associate. The successful candidate will be working with one or more Ph.D. scientists or with the functional teams in support of their research projects. He or she will be mainly responsible for assisting developing and conducting plant-based assays for evaluation of microbial strains and consortia. Further, this role may include execution of molecular biology-based assays; preference is given to candidates with microbiology familiarity. A strong work ethic, good communication skills, the ability to work in a team environment and a pioneering spirit are essential.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and analyzing greenhouse and plant growth room experiments internally, or with third party research contractors using proper experimental design for testing our products.
  • Assist in developing and building a core understanding of plant growth promoting systems.
  • May assist other functional teams in performing experiments that involve plant analysis
  • Operation and maintenance of basic lab equipment
  • Accountable for sample preparation and submission to third party laboratories.
  • Preparation of chemical reagents and liquid/solid microbial and plant growth medium.
  • Documentation of experiments and data, including proper lab notebook maintenance.
  • Generate or assist in the generation of SOPs and reports, when required.
  • Interpretation of data, including data processing for subsequent review and reporting/presentation.
  • Assisting with general lab operations, including autoclaving waste and ordering supplies.
  • Demonstrates proactive attitude towards site safety by exhibiting exemplary behavior accomplished through excellent safety practices.
  • Participates in all aspects of safety management and willing to promote safety principles among peers.

Qualifications:

  • B.Sc. degree in plant sciences with 2 years of experience or MS degree in Microbiology, Molecular Plant Pathology, or Plant Molecular Biology, with hands-on experience in plant-microbes interactions, plant biology/physiology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on graduate level-type lab experience.
  • Proficient in plant propagation, maintenance and screening.
  • Experience with plant tissue culture would be an advantage.
  • Understanding of soil microbiology would be an advantage.
  • Independent and proactive approach to work, good team player with leadership skills based on teamwork cooperation.
  • Experience working with scientific professionals within the agricultural sector.
  • Document editing skills according to a scientific publishing standard.
  • Excellent computer skills and familiarity with Word, PowerPoint and Excel software.
  • Knowledge and use computer imaging software and programing a plus.
  • Knowledge of Statistics.
  • Ability to work safely with chemicals and microorganisms.
  • Strong organizational and people skills, with ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to organize, analyze, and deliver information in a concise, accurate, and professional manner.
  • Attention to detail with excellent record-keeping skills.

Required experience:

  • Hands-on graduate level lab experience: 2 years

Compensation package:
