Plant Manager

Location: Nampa, Idaho, USA

Purpose of Position:
Manage daily activities of assigned departments in Plant and facility, control of the process control documents and processes.

Position Description Summary
Monitor and evaluate the throughput of product in your departments, through the use of reports and time spent on the floor.  Manage daily activities in Plant Departments assigned, including all scheduling, staff, and budgetary responsibilities.  Also ensure all processes; protocols are documented enforced and maintained.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Organize and delegate daily workload based on dates needed and priority to ensure deadlines are met in Assigned departments.
  • Ensure in compliance with all local and federal laws.
  • Ensure all required permitting is complete and in compliance.
  • Creation and maintenance for all procedural and process control documents for assigned departments.
  • Develop quarterly Plant QC audits on visual quality and procedures and administers the audit with other Plant managers and facilities.
  • Work with Management on implementation and training of all procedures and processes.
  • Project management – Ability to plan schedule and execute project.
  • Handle Employee issues as the arise
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy of input into JDE, in a timely and efficient manner.  
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiencies in your departments, through the use of reports and time spent on the floor.  
  • Ensure quality standards are enforced at all times and procedures are followed.  
  • Ensure all safety policies are maintained and employees are working in a productive yet safe manner.  
  • Effectively communicate with employees and supervisors to ensure information flow does not stop. 
  • Work with departmental Supervisors on Daily activities and scheduling.
  • Responsible for overseeing facility maintenance.
  • Employee evaluation and hiring.
  • Responsible for all budgeting of assigned departments and monitoring monthly and yearly spends of departments. 
  • Capital Expenditure planning both short term and long term for assigned departments.  Along with implementing approved Capex projects to complete in given time and budget.
  • Manage facility housecleaning to ensure completion.
  • Willingness to work with other managers to transfer employees from assigned departments to other departments to offset labor needs in peak seasons.
  • Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities:  

Depending on assigned departments, total direct and indirect reports: 10 to 20     

Qualifications:

Competencies:  
To perform the job successfully, an individual should demonstrate the following competencies:

  • Planning – Short Term:  Prioritize orders by date.  Manage levels of operation supplies.  Long Term:  Budget planning for year for all departmental expenses.  Monitoring and updating 5 year plan for capital expenditures.  Projecting yearly capital expenditures needs, payback and justifications.  Project implementation of approved Capex projects.
  • Technical Skills – Knowledge of ERP program: proficient in Excel and Word.   Scheduling experience, math skills, fork lift operation (certification needed), and leadership ability.  Experience with short and long term planning.  Ability to read, write and speak English Language.  Basic Finance understanding, costing, P&L.  
  • Interpersonal Skills – Good oral and written communication skills required.  Ability to resolve employee issues within the department.  
  • Teamwork – Self-starter; have the ability to work in a cooperative, team environment with employees from varying backgrounds and experience.  Have the ability to lead, train and to facilitate teamwork among staff.
  • Judgment –   Sound judgment.  Takes responsibility for actions and decisions made.  Must possess the ability to make crucial decisions in a timely and accurate manner
  • Ability to travel to other facilities.
  • Professionalism – Perform each task with accuracy and speed, while maintaining and practicing proper safety procedures.  Be a role model for staff.
  • Adaptability –. Willingness to work with other managers to transfer employees from assigned departments to other departments to offset labor needs in peak seasons
  • Attendance/Punctuality – Exhibit good attendance practices.  Be timely and effective while on the job.
  • Dependability – Able to perform and maintain the functions of the job in a reliable and consistent manner.

Education / Experience:

  • BS or BA college Degree (Engineering and or Plant science preferred)
  • 10 yrs general Industry experience 
  • 5 yrs supervisory or managerial experience

Miscellaneous

  • Reports to : Large Seed Production Manager
  • Supervisory responsibilities :  From 10 to 25 employees (depending on department)
  • Status : Exempt  
  • Internal relations:  All warehouse employees and supervisors, Plant managers at other facilities, Inventory, Sales, Marketing, Finance, Human Recourses, and Purchasing. QA Department, Quality Control
  • External relations:  Varies depending on department, Regulatory Agencies, 
  • Other indicators :  N/A

While performing the duties of this job the employee may be driving cars, trucks, forklifts, or other equipment. This position will be exposed to warehouse and outdoor weather conditions.  The employee may need to walk on uneven ground, work near equipment or machinery, work in a dusty environment, and may be exposed to vibration or constant movement. The noise level that is typical of this work environment is loud.
