Agronomist – Biorational Products

Location: Long Grove, Illinois, USA

Description of Job

  • Discover new approaches to enhance crop productivity through the use of biorational products - plant growth regulators and microbial products.
  • Coordinate and conduct field and laboratory research.  
  • Evaluate and create biorational products to ameliorate abiotic stress and enhance crop productivity.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research studies in the area of crop physiology and agronomy with a focus on enhancing crop productivity, crop stress management, growth enhancement, and crop management using biorational substances and microorganisms.
  • Find new uses for existing plant growth regulator products.  
  • Provide scientific expertise in the area of crop physiology with a focus on crop stress management and growth enhancement.
  • Participate in cross-functional new product development and product support and renewal project teams.

Experience: 

  • Strong background in whole-plant physiology.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research.
  • Significant hands-on research experience in field, greenhouse, and growth chamber experimentation with agronomic crops and associated production practices.
  • Working familiarity with common laboratory equipment, field-based high-throughput phenotyping and associated data acquisition and processing.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive novel hypotheses regarding crop performance, and the ability to test the hypotheses in the laboratory and field.
  • Notable plant growth regulator experience.  Familiarity with biostimulants a definite plus.
  • Root research experience in morphogenesis and root-shoot signaling.
  • Research experience in the imposition and quantification of drought stress

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Solid track record of using innovative approaches to developing new products, and a clear sense of urgency in getting things done.
  • Routine use of MS software (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Prior experience with electronic notebooks a definite plus. 
  • Working knowledge of experimental design, statistics and use of associated computer software.

Education: 

  • Ph.D. in Agronomy or Plant Science.
  • Postdoctoral experience in relevant field.

Travel: Domestic/International travel 20-30%
